The Myths of Mathematics

Memorial Hall, McNamara Alumni Center

Sep 30th | 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

With the meteoric rise of technology, mathematics has risen in power and is prized in every sector of today’s data-driven market. To our detriment, we now value the sciences over the arts, digital over analog, and utility over beauty, replacing what is complex with what is measurable. The dangerous effects of these choices have started to make us less human. Exploring Albrecht Dürer and Salvador Dali, Burning Man and Beowulf, and the mysteries of 4D origami, we use the lens of mathematics to offer a possible way forward, to redeem and renew our STEM obsessed world.
